Moushumi Chatterjee Alleges Rekha Tried to Take Her Role, Made Faces at Her

Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee has made headlines with her candid revelations about her uneasy relationship with iconic Bollywood star Rekha. In a recent interview, Chatterjee spoke openly about the tensions between them during the peak of their careers in the 1970s and 1980s, highlighting instances of jealousy, rivalry, and competition for roles.

According to Moushumi Chatterjee, Rekha had developed a sense of resentment towards her, particularly because of Chatterjee's close rapport with actor Vinod Mehra. Recalling an example, Chatterjee said, “Rekha used to think I’m controlling Vinod Mehra’s life. Because she was living in his house, and Vinod’s mother would ask me to get things for her from Vinod’s cupboard. Naturally, she did not like that.” This led to Rekha allegedly developing animosity towards her.

Chatterjee further alleged that Rekha would often make faces at her during shoots and events. She mentioned that she once confronted Rekha about this behavior, and Rekha became visibly uncomfortable and nervous. She claimed that Rekha, who was tired of being cast in secondary roles, approached the film’s director, Raj Khosla, and requested to be given Chatterjee’s role instead. In the film, Chatterjee played the wife of Sanjeev Kumar’s character. Rekha’s request was apparently turned down, as the director told her that giving her the role would mean having to completely change the storyline. Chatterjee recounted the director’s reaction: “He laughed and said, ‘Mereko poora story change karna padega.’” This moment highlighted the extent to which Rekha was trying to reposition herself in leading roles, even at the cost of disrupting established casting decisions.
