Meet Suraj Gaywal, a Triple Amputee Bodybuilder Who Never Stopped Pursuing His Dreams

Suraj Gaywal’s story is one of incredible resilience, determination, and the unshakable will to succeed against all odds. A 23-year-old from Pune, Suraj is not just any young man—he is a triple amputee who has emerged as a celebrated bodybuilder, defying physical limitations and societal expectations.

His life took a dramatic turn in 2016 when, while working part-time for a Wi-Fi installation company during his Class 12 studies, he suffered a tragic accident. Suraj came into contact with a high-voltage live wire, resulting in a severe electric shock. The incident left him critically injured and, ultimately, led to the amputation of both his legs and his right arm. He spent nearly three months in the hospital, undergoing multiple surgeries and battling infections. The trauma was not only physical but emotional as well. Returning home, he faced the daunting task of rebuilding his life with three limbs lost.

Despite the unimaginable challenges, Suraj refused to give up. In 2017, he was fitted with prosthetic limbs and spent an entire year learning how to walk again. He also enrolled in a program run by Dr. Reddy’s Foundation, a non-profit organization that trains individuals in employable skills. There, he developed his communication abilities and computer literacy—key steps in his journey towards independence. Coming from a humble background—his father works as a watchman and he is the third of four brothers—Suraj always had to push harder than most to carve out a path for himself.

By 2021, Suraj had turned his focus towards fitness and bodybuilding. With immense dedication, he trained for just two months and participated in a district-level bodybuilding competition in Pune. His efforts earned him a silver medal in the "star category" reserved for differently-abled athletes. This early success propelled him into the national and international bodybuilding scene, where he went on to compete in major contests such as Sheru Classic 2022, Mr. India 2022, and even Mr. Universe 2022.

Suraj juggles his passion for fitness with a night job at an international call center, working from 8 PM to 5 AM. Despite the exhausting schedule, he never misses his workout, dedicating up to 1.5 hours daily to the gym. His commitment has not gone unnoticed—on Instagram, he has amassed over 85,000 followers who are inspired by his dedication and transformation.

Through social media, Suraj shares glimpses of his workout routines, motivational messages, and his personal journey, serving as a beacon of hope for people facing adversity. He believes that life is about making the most of what you have, not lamenting what you’ve lost.

Suraj Gaywal’s journey is a shining example of human grit. From a life-altering accident to earning medals in bodybuilding, he has proven that obstacles can be turned into stepping stones with courage and discipline. His story continues to inspire thousands, reminding us all that with determination and hard work, even the most insurmountable challenges can be overcome.
