‘Tired’ Anupam Kher Falls Asleep on Boman Irani's Lap Inside Car After Tanvi The Great's Screening in Cannes

In a heartwarming and humorous moment that captured the attention of fans and celebrities alike, veteran actor Anupam Kher was seen dozing off on the lap of fellow actor Boman Irani after the screening of their film Tanvi The Great at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The candid moment, shared by Boman Irani on Instagram, beautifully showcased the deep bond between the two seasoned actors.

The photograph posted by Boman shows Anupam Kher fast asleep with his head resting comfortably on Boman's lap during a car ride after the event. Boman, with a soft smile and a hand placed affectionately on Anupam’s, captioned the picture humorously: “The hard work is done. The response is great. He’s so tired…But why on my lap???” The image reflected not just fatigue after days of promotion and screenings, but also a genuine moment of camaraderie between two friends who have long shared the screen and stage.

Anupam Kher, reacting to the post, responded with a string of laughing emojis, clearly enjoying the affectionate trolling. The post quickly became a hit across social media, drawing warm and witty reactions from their colleagues in the film industry. Farah Khan commented with playful envy, saying, “I’ve got competition.” Actor Sudhanshu Pandey remarked, “This picture is gold.” Mona Singh and Aahana Kumra joined the chorus with emojis expressing laughter and love. Fans also poured in heartfelt responses, with one saying, “True friends relax on each other’s shoulders when they achieve their dreams,” and another calling it “the lap of a friendship.”

The adorable moment followed the international premiere of Tanvi The Great, a film that marks Anupam Kher’s return to directing after over two decades. The film features an ensemble cast including Pallavi Joshi, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swamy, Iain Glen, debutante Shubhangi Dutt, and Karan Tacker. It tells the inspiring story of Tanvi Raina, a 21-year-old woman with autism, who embarks on a courageous journey to fulfill her late father’s dream of saluting the Indian flag at the Siachen Glacier, the highest battlefield in the world.

Anupam Kher described the film as a heartfelt tribute to resilience, dreams, and patriotism. Reflecting on the film’s positive reception, he shared, “I am not traditionally a director, but primarily an actor, but the story inspired me. When it reaches the heart of the people, it's really gratifying. The kind of comments we got in Cannes and in London yesterday are fantastic. I wanted to make a film from India for the world, and I think that I have sort of managed to achieve it.”

Tanvi The Great is scheduled for release on July 18, and the early buzz suggests it will strike a chord with audiences worldwide. The viral image of Anupam Kher resting on Boman Irani’s lap has now become symbolic—not just of post-screening fatigue, but of friendship, support, and the emotional investment that artists put into meaningful cinema.
