Mukul Dev, a well-known face in Indian cinema and television, passed away on May 23, 2025, at the age of 54. The actor, who began his career in the mid-1990s, left behind a legacy of memorable performances across Bollywood, regional films, and TV shows. He had reportedly been hospitalized in the ICU due to health complications. The exact cause of his death has not yet been disclosed by the family.
Born into a family with ties to the film industry, Mukul Dev carved a niche for himself with his versatile acting skills. He was the younger brother of actor Rahul Dev, and while Rahul gained recognition for his roles in action films, Mukul was known for his diverse character portrayals. Mukul began his acting journey with the television serial Mumkin in 1996. The same year, he made his film debut in Dastak, starring alongside Miss Universe 1994, Sushmita Sen.
Over the years, Mukul Dev appeared in numerous Hindi films such as Qila, Kohram, Son of Sardaar, Yamla Pagla Deewana, R... Rajkumar, and Jai Ho. His strong screen presence and ability to adapt to various genres earned him roles not only in Bollywood but also in Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam cinema. In television, he was seen in popular shows like Pyar Zindagi Hai, Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, and 21 Sarfarosh – Saragarhi 1897, where he portrayed historical and emotional roles with equal finesse.
Beyond the screen, Mukul Dev had an interesting and lesser-known background. Before entering the film industry, he trained as a pilot and earned a certificate in aeronautics from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Aviation in Raebareli. He even worked briefly as an aviation trainer. However, his passion for performing eventually led him to the world of cinema and television.
Mukul Dev was known in the industry for being soft-spoken, humble, and deeply committed to his craft. His last on-screen appearance was in 2022, after which he maintained a relatively low public profile. Friends and colleagues from the entertainment world expressed their shock and sorrow at his passing. Actor Vindu Dara Singh remembered him as “like a brother,” and veteran actor Manoj Bajpayee posted a heartfelt message mourning the loss of a “wonderful actor gone too soon.”
His death has left a void in the Indian entertainment industry. With a career spanning almost three decades, Mukul Dev made significant contributions to both cinema and television. He brought to life a wide array of characters that resonated with audiences of all ages.
