Gaurav Taneja Aka Flying Beast Reacts to Air India Plane Crash in Ahmedabad

In the wake of the devastating Air India crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, former commercial pilot and popular YouTuber Gaurav Taneja, also known as Flying Beast, shared his expert opinion regarding the possible cause of the tragic incident. The crash, which claimed the lives of 241 out of 242 people on board, has shaken the nation and raised serious questions about aircraft safety and emergency preparedness.

Gaurav Taneja, who has extensive experience flying commercial aircraft, took to social media shortly after the crash to suggest that the likely cause of the disaster was a dual-engine failure. According to him, such a catastrophic loss of power in both engines immediately after takeoff is extremely rare but highly dangerous. He explained that nothing short of a complete power failure can lead to the kind of rapid descent that was witnessed in this case. Taneja emphasized that at an altitude of around 600 feet, with buildings ahead and limited time to act, pilots have virtually no options for recovery.

He went on to explain that in his training as a pilot, scenarios involving dual-engine failure during takeoff were considered some of the most difficult to handle. In simulators, instructors often reset the simulation before the situation escalates, acknowledging that in real-life conditions, survival is nearly impossible once both engines shut down during the critical initial phase of flight. He described it as a nightmare scenario for any pilot and noted the emotional toll such incidents take on those who understand the limitations of even the best aviation systems.

The aircraft involved in the crash was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, registered VT-ANB. It was reportedly airborne for only about 30 seconds before it lost altitude and crashed into a hostel building associated with BJ Medical College. Eyewitnesses saw the plane climbing briefly before it nose-dived into the building, causing multiple explosions and a massive blaze. The fireball was so intense that rescue operations were severely hindered, and the temperature reportedly soared to nearly 1,000°C, leaving no chance for survival for most on board or in the building.

Taneja’s observations align with early speculations and provide a technical perspective that resonates with both the aviation community and the general public. He also highlighted the need for thorough investigation and transparency, calling on authorities to ensure that flight data recorders and cockpit voice recordings are thoroughly analyzed to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the crash.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), along with international agencies like the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and UK’s AAIB, has begun a comprehensive investigation. Meanwhile, the flying community and aviation experts like Taneja continue to contribute insights, hoping that such tragedies can be prevented in the future.

Gaurav Taneja’s response has not only shed light on the possible technical failures behind the crash but also brought attention to the critical importance of aviation safety and pilot training in handling worst-case scenarios.
