Fans Divided Over ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ Remake in Varun Dhawan's Upcoming Film ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’

A leaked video clip from the upcoming Bollywood film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has created quite a stir on social media. The film features actors Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and Mrunal Thakur performing a modern version of the classic 1999 hit song “Chunnari Chunnari,” originally picturized on Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen in the film Biwi No.1. This remake, unofficially dubbed “Chunnari Chunnari 2.0,” has evoked mixed reactions from fans and cinephiles alike.

The original “Chunnari Chunnari,” composed by Anu Malik and sung by Abhijeet and Anuradha Sriram, was a massive hit during its time. It was known for its catchy rhythm, vibrant dance sequence, and memorable on-screen pairing. In contrast, the remake features a slick modern presentation with updated choreography and flashy visuals. However, the short leaked clip has drawn polarized opinions. While a section of fans is excited to see a nostalgic song return with a contemporary twist, many others have voiced strong opposition to the remake.

Some fans took to social media to express their disappointment, urging filmmakers not to "ruin" classic songs for the sake of trendiness. Comments ranged from “Please don’t touch the classics” to “Bollywood needs to stop this remake obsession.” The backlash reflects a broader concern among audiences who feel that the soul and originality of iconic numbers often get lost in remakes. Critics of the clip argue that the energy and authenticity of the original version are missing in the new adaptation.

Directed by David Dhawan, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai marks yet another collaboration between the veteran filmmaker and his son Varun Dhawan. The film is said to be a romantic comedy that blends modern storytelling with elements of classic Bollywood charm. This is David and Varun’s fourth project together, following successful films like Main Tera Hero, Judwaa 2, and Coolie No. 1 (2020 remake).

Alongside Varun, Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur are cast in leading roles, and the trio has been filming in a variety of scenic locations such as Mumbai, Goa, Rishikesh, and even internationally in Scotland. During the shoot in Rishikesh, Varun and Pooja were spotted attending the sacred Ganga Aarti at Parmarth Niketan, where they reportedly sought blessings for the film’s success.

Despite the divided opinions about the song, the film has generated significant attention ahead of its release. The makers seem to be targeting a blend of nostalgia and youthful energy to appeal to a wide audience. Whether the full version of “Chunnari Chunnari 2.0” will win over fans when officially released remains to be seen.

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is slated for a worldwide release on April 10, 2026. As anticipation builds, fans hope that the film will offer both fresh entertainment and respectful tributes to Bollywood’s golden moments.
