Bollywood Talk on ‘The Raja Saab’ – A Thumbs Down

Prabhas' upcoming film The Raja Saab has been creating waves online ever since the teaser dropped. However, while Telugu fans have welcomed the teaser with excitement, the response from Bollywood circles and northern audiences has been surprisingly cold. According to recent buzz, many in the Hindi film industry and northern media have given the teaser a “thumbs down,” branding it a “disaster in the making.”

The teaser features Prabhas in a massy, over-the-top horror-comedy setting, directed by Maruthi. While fans from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana praised the visual style, quirky humor, and Prabhas’ signature screen presence, the northern critics weren’t impressed. Many felt the teaser lacked originality, with comparisons being made to older South Indian horror comedies like Chandramukhi and even Bollywood's own Bhool Bhulaiyaa. The production design and tone of the teaser, while appealing to regional fans, were considered too chaotic and outdated by Bollywood insiders.

The situation got more controversial when the film’s creative producer, SKN, publicly claimed that a negative campaign had been launched against The Raja Saab. He alleged that another producer from the industry deliberately tried to sabotage the teaser’s reception by spreading negative reviews. This accusation has sparked a debate in the industry, raising questions about professional rivalry and insecurity.

Adding fuel to the fire, SKN also came under fire for wearing a T-shirt with the word “Jathini” printed on it during promotional events. This term has caste-based connotations in certain regions of Andhra Pradesh and was seen by some as an indirect insult targeting particular communities. Although SKN defended himself, saying it was just a fashion choice, the damage was done. The controversy shifted the focus away from the teaser itself, drawing criticism not just from fans but also from political and community leaders.

Despite all the negativity, some trade experts believe that The Raja Saab still has potential. Prabhas’ star power remains a major factor. While his recent outings haven’t lived up to expectations, there’s still a loyal fan base that supports him unconditionally. The film’s unique blend of horror, comedy, and romance might work well with family audiences if executed properly.

Still, there is a clear divide in perception. While Telugu audiences are optimistic, the Hindi-speaking regions appear to be skeptical. This regional gap in response could impact the film’s pan-India appeal unless the full trailer or upcoming promotional materials manage to change public opinion.

In conclusion, The Raja Saab has made an impression—but not the one the makers likely hoped for. With controversies, regional divides, and doubts hovering over the project, the film’s journey ahead will be closely watched. Whether it turns out to be a hit or another setback for Prabhas remains to be seen. What’s certain is that the film has already become a topic of heated debate even before its release.
