Yash Raj Films may be preparing to enter a genre that has remained largely absent from its theatrical catalogue: horror.
Varun Dhawan is reportedly set to headline the studio's first full-fledged horror feature, with Rocket Boys director Abhay Pannu attached to write and direct the yet-untitled project. The film is expected to begin production later in 2026 with a theatrical release being targeted for 2027.
The combination immediately stands out for three reasons.
It would bring Dhawan back to YRF eight years after Sui Dhaaga: Made in India, move Pannu from acclaimed streaming drama into theatrical filmmaking, and — if the project proceeds as reported — take one of Hindi cinema's most established production banners into dedicated horror.

That means describing the movie as a supernatural thriller, creature feature, horror-comedy or part of a planned franchise would go beyond what is presently supported.
For now, horror is the most precise description available.
Abhay Pannu is a particularly interesting choice
Dhawan's casting will naturally attract the headlines, but Pannu's involvement may be the more revealing creative decision.
He is best known for directing SonyLIV's Rocket Boys, the historical drama built around Indian scientists Homi J. Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai.
