Comebacks in the film industry are often declared on the strength of a single successful Friday. However, Akshay Kumar's ongoing revival is a sustained, mathematical resurgence that has radically shifted his box office baseline and established a completely new standard for his theatrical releases.
After weathering what was arguably the most challenging phase of his career between 2022 and 2024, the superstar has engineered a remarkable turnaround spanning six films and two consecutive years.
The Lean Period vs. The Rebound
Between 2022 and 2024, Kumar appeared in ten theatrical releases that collectively earned approximately Rs. 484.84 crores, translating to a modest average of Rs. 48.48 crores per film. In 2024, this average bottomed out at just Rs. 40.55 crores.
The tectonic shift arrived in 2025. With a slate of four releases Sky Force, Kesari Chapter 2, Housefull 5, and Jolly LLB 3, Kumar brought in a combined Rs. 499.03 crores. In a single year, his four films earned more than his previous ten films combined, tripling his per-film average to Rs. 124.76 crores.
Most importantly, this wasn't carried by a single blockbuster. Three of the four films crossed the Rs. 100-crore mark, and the fourth (Kesari Chapter 2) finished just shy at Rs. 93.28 crore. Kumar didn't just raise his box-office ceiling; he dramatically elevated his floor.
2026: The Victory Lap
If 2025 marked the comeback, 2026 is solidifying the reign. Kumar's first two releases of the year Bhooth Bangla and Welcome to the Jungle have already collected a combined Rs. 299.01 crores.
This pushes his 2026 average to an extraordinary Rs. 149.51 crores per film nearly a 20% jump from his already impressive 2025 numbers. Across his last six releases, five have entered the Rs. 100-crore club.
The Box-Office Trajectory:
Period | Films | Total Collections | Average Per Film |
2022–2024 combined | 10 | Rs. 484.84 cr. | Rs. 48.48 cr. |
2025 | 4 | Rs. 499.03 cr. | Rs. 124.76 cr. |
2026 (So Far) | 2 | Rs. 299.01 cr. | Rs. 149.51 cr. |
2026 (Projected) | 4 | Rs. 599.01 cr. | Rs. 149.75 cr. |
The Road to Rs. 600 Crores
The prolific output that once magnified Kumar's downturn is now the undeniable proof of his comeback. Audiences are consistently turning out for his theatrical propositions across genres.
Looking ahead, Kumar has two significant films lined up for the remainder of 2026: Priyadarshan's Haiwaan (co-starring Saif Ali Khan) and an untitled comedy directed by Anees Bazmee (featuring Vidya Balan). If these films add approximately Rs. 300 crores to his tally, Kumar's 2026 collections will breach the Rs. 600-crore mark.
Hitting those projections would make 2026 his highest-grossing year since 2019, cementing one of the most compelling second acts ever witnessed in the history of Hindi cinema.
