Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi Reunite for Ghatak Ghus Ke Maarega, but It Is Not a Ghatak Sequel

Rajkumar Santoshi has revealed that he and Sunny Deol are developing a full-fledged action film titled Ghatak Ghus Ke Maarega. While the title deliberately recalls their 1996 action drama Ghatak, the filmmaker has clarified that the proposed movie is not being planned as a direct sequel.

The distinction matters because early descriptions of the project could easily create the impression that Ghatak 2 has been announced. Santoshi’s own account is more unusual: Sunny is expected to return as the same character associated with Ghatak, but the character will be placed in a different setting rather than continuing the original film through a conventional sequel.

Speaking to PTI, Santoshi said that he and Sunny were working on several stories and would make a formal announcement soon. Discussing this particular project, he described it as a film with “full-fledged action” and identified its title as Ghatak Ghus Ke Maarega.

Sunny Deol’s Ghatak Character Is Being Revived

In the original Ghatak, Sunny played Kashi Nath, a man from Banaras who travels to Mumbai with his ailing father. He becomes involved in a confrontation with Katya, a violent local strongman played by Danny Denzongpa. The film also starred Meenakshi Seshadri and Amrish Puri, with Santoshi serving as its director, writer, and producer.

Santoshi has said the new film will feature the same character and has specifically referred to the character’s Banaras background. However, the filmmaker has not yet publicly explained how Kashi Nath will be reintroduced, whether the original film’s events will form part of the new story, or why the project is not being classified as a sequel.

That leaves Ghatak Ghus Ke Maarega in an uncommon creative position: it appears designed to revive the identity and screen persona of Kashi without being marketed as a numbered continuation of Ghatak.

The project is supported by a direct statement from Santoshi, making the collaboration and working title more substantial than an anonymous industry report. Nevertheless, his remark that a formal announcement will be made “soon” shows that the film is still at a relatively early public-announcement stage.
