Pravin Tarde Says Shah Rukh Khan Waived ₹42 Lakh Deool Band 2 Bill; Film’s Profits Support Farmers’ Children

Filmmaker Pravin Tarde has credited Shah Rukh Khan with helping Deool Band 2 overcome a costly pre-release hurdle, claiming that the actor instructed Red Chillies Entertainment to waive approximately ₹42 lakh connected with the Marathi film’s Digital Cinema Package.
Tarde has now linked that assistance to a larger chain of support. Following the film’s successful theatrical run, he says its producers recovered the production cost and directed the remaining profit towards the education and daily needs of children whose farmer parents died by suicide in Maharashtra.
Both developments are based principally on statements made by Tarde. Red Chillies Entertainment has not issued a public confirmation of the waiver, while independently audited figures documenting the total profit and charitable distribution were not located. The claims should therefore remain clearly attributed to the filmmaker.
What Pravin Tarde said about Shah Rukh Khan’s help
In a June 2026 conversation with the Marathi channel Abhijat Marathi Filmy, Tarde said his team had approached Red Chillies Entertainment for work connected with the film’s Digital Cinema Package, or DCP the standardized digital files used to exhibit a movie in cinemas.
According to Tarde, the makers had set aside approximately ₹12 lakh but eventually faced a bill of around ₹42 lakh to ₹45 lakh. With the production already operating under financial constraints, they were unable to immediately clear the amount.
Tarde said the team approached Red Chillies, explained that Deool Band 2 was a regional production with a limited budget and requested assistance because it wanted to release the film on a substantial number of screens.
The request eventually reached Shah Rukh Khan, according to the director. Tarde said Khan asked his technical team about the film and learned that it came from the creators associated with Mulshi Pattern, which was later adapted into the Hindi film Antim.
Tarde’s account is that Khan then asked his company to make the DCP available and set aside the outstanding charge, placing the film’s release ahead of the payment. The director has repeatedly described the intervention as an act of generosity towards a smaller regional production.
Was the entire ₹42 lakh formally waived?
The broad claim is consistently reported as a waiver, but Tarde’s retellings contain slightly different wording.
In one account, he said Shah Rukh Khan asked the company to waive the bill. In another, he recalled Khan saying that the DCP should be released first and the payment could be discussed later. The sum has also been described as ranging from approximately ₹42 lakh to ₹45 lakh.
No invoice, waiver document or Red Chillies statement was identified during research. The safest formulation is therefore that Tarde says Shah Rukh Khan intervened and had the ₹42 lakh-plus DCP-related charge waived or set aside, allowing the film’s theatrical release to proceed.
Where the makers say the film’s profits went
Tarde later told Pinkvilla that the producers recovered only the film’s production cost and directed the remaining profit towards children from farming families affected by suicide, particularly in drought-hit areas of Maharashtra.
“What made Deool Band 2 a unique film across India?” he said, before claiming that “every single penny” earned as profit was donated.
According to the filmmaker, the assistance is intended to help affected children resume or continue their education. He also said the initiative is providing two meals daily to approximately 250 children and is planned to continue in the coming years.
Tarde credited producer Kailas Wani with supporting the programme.
The initiative was not announced only after the film completed its theatrical run. In June, Tarde publicly declared in Shirdi that, after deducting the reported ₹8,10 crore production expenditure, the remaining earnings would be used for the education of children particularly girls from families affected by farmer suicides.
This earlier announcement supports the existence of the pledge. However, public records identifying the recipient organization, total disbursed amount, selection process or independently audited utilization of the funds were not found.
Did the makers donate ₹100 crore?
No verified evidence supports the description that the makers “donated ₹100 crore.”
Tarde has claimed that the film reached the ₹100 crore box-office mark. He has also said that production costs were recovered before the profit was directed towards the social initiative. Box-office gross, producer revenue and final profit are three different figures.
Publicly available collection estimates are not uniform. Pinkvilla placed the film’s final India gross at approximately ₹85 crore, while Sacnilk listed an estimated worldwide gross of ₹87.11 crore and warned that its numbers were compiled from different sources and could vary from producer figures. Other Marathi coverage, citing the team’s celebrations and claims, reported that the film crossed ₹100 crore.
Some reports appear to reach a higher total by including overseas income and tent-show collections. Without a certified producer statement presenting a complete revenue breakdown, the ₹100 crore figure should be attributed to the filmmakers rather than stated as an independently established total.
More importantly, the amount reportedly donated is not the total gross collection. It is the profit remaining after production costs and potentially other expenses were recovered.
Why the initiative fits the film’s subject
Deool Band 2 is not disconnected from the cause its makers have chosen to support. The film places rural distress, farming hardship, faith and family resilience at the centre of its story.
The Central Board of Film Certification’s official listing describes the plot as the journey of a farmer questioning his faith, alongside a woman struggling to protect her family through severe hardship. The film received a UA 16+ certificate and has a certified running length of slightly over three hours.
Its official trailer, released by Vatavruksha Entertainment, identified Pravin Tarde as writer and director and Kailas Wani, Jayashree Wani, Kaivalya Wani and Juili Wani Suryawanshi as producers. The Marathi film opened theatrically on May 21, 2026.
Mohan Joshi, Snehal Tarde, Mahesh Manjrekar and Pravin Tarde are among the principal cast members.
A sequel that expanded beyond devotional drama
The film follows the 2015 release Deool Band, but the sequel broadens its religious and philosophical setting by connecting questions of faith with the economic and emotional pressures faced by farming families.
That makes the education initiative more than an unrelated promotional donation. If implemented as described, it directs the film’s commercial returns towards people closely connected with its subject matter.
The long-term value of the programme will depend on transparent reporting of the money distributed, the beneficiaries reached and the organization responsible for administering the support.
The Celebrity Hour Take
There are two meaningful acts of support in this story, but both require accurate framing.
First, Pravin Tarde’s account suggests that Shah Rukh Khan used the resources of a major Hindi-film company to remove a financial obstacle for a smaller Marathi production without knowing whether it would succeed commercially. That is more significant than a routine celebrity endorsement because it addressed a practical release problem.
Second, the makers say they chose not to treat the film’s success solely as a commercial windfall. By connecting its profit with the education of children affected by farmer suicides, they extended the film’s rural concerns beyond the screen.
The next editorially useful step would be transparent documentation: confirmation from Red Chillies concerning the waiver and a clear report from the producers showing the profit calculated, funds distributed and children supported. That would turn two compelling first-person accounts into fully verifiable examples of industry and social responsibility.
Sources & Verification
This report was prepared using Pravin Tarde’s publicly reported interviews, the makers’ Shirdi announcement, the official Deool Band 2 trailer and the CBFC film record. Box-office estimates were compared across multiple trackers because no consistent independently audited total was available. The ₹42 lakh intervention and charitable disbursement remain attributed to Tarde where independent documentation was unavailable.
