Raima Islam Shimu Murder Case: What Happened After the Bangladeshi Actress Went Missing

Bangladeshi actress Raima Islam Shimu disappeared from her Dhaka home in January 2022. Within roughly a day, police recovered her body near Hazratpur Bridge in Keraniganj, setting off a murder investigation that quickly turned towards her husband and one of his friends.

What Happened to Raima Islam Shimu?

Shimu was reported missing on January 16, 2022.

Police subsequently recovered her body on January 17 near the Hazratpur Bridge area of Keraniganj, outside Dhaka. Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the country’s state news agency, reported that police recovered the body after local residents alerted them and later arrested Shimu’s husband and his friend.

Contemporaneous police accounts said Shimu’s husband had initially presented her as missing. Investigators later focused on him and Farhad as evidence gathered from the family vehicle and the disposal site began to connect the two locations.

Police Said Her Husband Admitted Involvement

On January 18, 2022, Dhaka district police chief Maruf Hossain Sardar told reporters that Nobel had admitted involvement during questioning and that Farhad had assisted him.

The case then moved beyond a police interrogation.

On January 20, both Nobel and Farhad gave confessional statements before separate magistrates, according to court officials and prosecutors quoted by The Daily Star and Dhaka Tribune. They were subsequently sent to jail.

That distinction is important editorially. It is more precise to say they gave confessional statements and were charged and tried than to present every allegation in the police reconstruction as an independently established judicial finding.

What Did Investigators Say Led Them to the Suspects?

One of the most significant investigative details concerned material found in the family vehicle.

Bangladeshi outlet bdnews24 reported that investigators found thread in the vehicle that police said corresponded with material used to secure the sacks in which Shimu’s remains were discovered. That evidence helped redirect suspicion towards Nobel.

BSS separately reported that police seized Nobel’s car after blood was found inside it.

Later reporting based on the police charge sheet said investigators alleged that Shimu was killed at the couple’s home and that efforts were then made to conceal the crime and dispose of her body.

These details come from the investigation and prosecution record. They should therefore remain attributed rather than rewritten as omniscient narrative fact.

Why Did Police Say Shimu Was Killed?

Police publicly described the suspected motive as marital or domestic conflict.

At a January 2022 press conference, investigators said Shimu and her husband had been experiencing ongoing marital problems.

Later, when the case reached court, Shimu and Nobel’s daughter testified that her father had frequently assaulted her mother amid marital discord. She also told the court that her father contacted her from custody and apologised for what he had done.

Those statements are evidence presented in the case, but they should not be expanded into unsupported speculation about Shimu’s private life or motives not established by investigators.

Husband and Friend Were Formally Put on Trial

The murder investigation progressed to formal charges in 2022.

Police submitted a charge sheet against Nobel and Farhad in August that year. In November 2022, a Dhaka court framed charges and formally opened the trial against both men.

Witness testimony followed.

One of those witnesses was Shimu’s daughter, who testified in January 2023 before the Dhaka Fourth Additional District and Sessions Judge.

Crucially, the legal case did not simply disappear after the first wave of headlines.

The Trial Was Still Active in 2026

This is the most important piece of context missing from many retrospective versions of the story.

As recently as March 5, 2026, a Dhaka court rejected bail applications filed by Nobel and Farhad. According to The Daily Observer, the court said 19 witnesses had already testified, while further evidence was still due to be recorded. The next hearing was then scheduled for April 15.

That means the publicly available record does not support describing the case as one in which the accused have already been finally convicted and sentenced.

The safest formulation as of August 2026 is that Nobel and Farhad were arrested, gave confessional statements, were charged with Shimu’s murder and remained defendants in an ongoing trial, based on the latest court reporting located during this review.

Who Was Raima Islam Shimu?

Shimu worked in Bangladesh’s film, theatre and television industries.

She made her film debut in Kazi Hayat’s Bartaman in 1998 and appeared in around 25 films, according to court and contemporary entertainment reporting. She later continued working in television after stepping back from regular film appearances.

Her career included collaborations with several Bangladeshi filmmakers, and she remained associated with the Bangladesh Film Artistes Association.

Published sources differ on Shimu’s exact age and year of birth, which is why this article does not state a definitive birth year. Contemporary reports variously described her as 35, 40 or 41 at the time of her death. That inconsistency should not be silently resolved by choosing one version without stronger documentary evidence.

Why the Case Is Being Discussed Again

There has been no newly discovered murder in this story.

The renewed attention follows an August 23, 2026 retrospective entertainment article revisiting Shimu’s disappearance and death. The underlying incident itself occurred on January 16–17, 2022.

That timeline is essential because a headline such as “24 hours after she went missing, actress found…” can easily read like a current breaking-news event when detached from its date.
