Jackie Shroff Reportedly Joins Salman Khan and Nayanthara’s Vamshi Paidipally Film as Cast Expands

Salman Khan's next collaboration is steadily turning into one of his most ambitious ensemble projects.

Jackie Shroff has reportedly joined the cast of the yet-untitled action entertainer directed by Vamshi Paidipally, bringing him back into Salman Khan's orbit for another big-screen project. The film already pairs Salman with Nayanthara for the first time and is being produced by Sri Venkateswara Creations.

Bollywood Hungama reported on August 7 that Jackie had been brought on board for a pivotal character and was beginning work with Salman during the film's Mumbai schedule. The publication also reported that, contrary to speculation surrounding his casting, Jackie is not playing the principal antagonist.

Subsequent coverage from The Times of India and other outlets has repeated Jackie's involvement, but the underlying casting information traces back to that reported development.

What is independently confirmed by the filmmakers is the larger project itself.

Sri Venkateswara Creations officially announced the start of filming in April, identifying Salman Khan and Nayanthara as its stars, Vamshi Paidipally as director, and Shirish and Kuldeep Rathore as producers, with Dil Raju presenting the film and Rafi Kazi serving as co-producer.

Jackie Shroff reportedly has a pivotal role — but not as the villain

Jackie's precise character remains under wraps.

Bollywood Hungama's original report described the role as important to the narrative while specifically claiming that he would not portray the negative lead.

That distinction is useful because the project has been linked with several actors in antagonistic roles.

The same report named Rahul Dev, Abhimanyu Singh and Arvind Swami in connection with the film's opposition, describing a story featuring multiple villains. Because these character details have not all been independently announced by the production house, they should remain described as reported casting information rather than officially confirmed character assignments.

Jackie's involvement nevertheless adds another experienced Hindi-film actor to a production already designed around a major Hindi-South crossover.

Salman Khan and Jackie Shroff have considerable history together

If the casting is formally announced, the reunion carries more significance than simply adding another veteran actor to the ensemble.

Jackie and Salman have crossed paths repeatedly across their careers.

They appeared together in Bandhan and Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye, while Jackie famously played Ram Prasad — the father of Kareena Kapoor's character — in Kyon Ki.

Their best-known later collaboration came with Bharat in 2019, where Jackie portrayed the father of Salman's character.

Jackie subsequently appeared alongside Salman again in Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai.

That history makes the new project an interesting reversal of expectations. Rather than selling Jackie purely through nostalgia, the reported casting places him inside a large ensemble being built around a new director-star combination for Salman.

What is officially confirmed about Salman and Nayanthara's film?

Unlike some of the supporting-cast reports, the film itself is firmly established.

The official shoot-begin video released by Dil Raju's verified channel identifies Salman and Nayanthara as the stars and Vamshi Paidipally as director. The project began filming in Mumbai in April 2026.

That collaboration is significant on two fronts.

It marks Salman Khan's first film with Vamshi Paidipally, the Telugu filmmaker behind titles including Brindavanam, Yevadu, Oopiri, Maharshi and Vijay-starrer Varisu.

It also brings Salman and Nayanthara together as an on-screen pair for the first time.

Salman himself publicly announced that the film is being positioned for Eid 2027, giving the project one of Bollywood's most commercially important release windows.

The Mumbai schedule is heavily focused on action

Production has moved considerably forward since that April launch.

By early August, the film had entered what the makers described as a major Mumbai action phase. When reports emerged claiming Salman had reduced his remuneration for the project, the production publicly rejected those claims as “purely speculative and factually incorrect.” 

That clarification also provided a useful indication of where the film stood in production: the team was concentrating on a large-scale action schedule.

More recent reporting says an Afghan village environment has been recreated at Film City in Mumbai for major sequences involving Salman and Nayanthara. The Times of India reported that Jackie was also expected to participate during this stretch of filming.

The production has therefore moved beyond its ceremonial launch into one of its more substantial shooting phases.

Nayanthara makes the project more than another Salman action film

The most important casting decision announced so far may still be Nayanthara.

She is one of South Indian cinema's most recognisable female stars, with a career spanning Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam cinema.

Hindi audiences also saw her opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Atlee's Jawan.

Her pairing with Salman gives Paidipally's film a natural cross-industry identity without needing to manufacture a “pan-India” label purely for marketing.

The combination is unusual: a Hindi superstar, one of South India's biggest female stars, a Telugu director and Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations operating within a large-scale Hindi theatrical production.

Jackie's reported addition expands that mix further.

The ensemble has continued growing

The cast has not stopped expanding since the Jackie Shroff reports emerged.

Sagarika Ghatge has subsequently joined the project, according to reporting published on August 12. That coverage also identifies Jackie and Rahul Dev as members of the growing ensemble.

This means the film is increasingly looking less like a straightforward two-star vehicle and more like an ensemble action production built around Salman and Nayanthara.

However, several reported supporting roles have not received the same level of first-party announcement as the two leads.

That distinction should be maintained until Sri Venkateswara Creations reveals the complete cast.

Why Eid 2027 matters

The planned Eid release is particularly significant for Salman.

Eid has been closely associated with some of the biggest theatrical releases of his career, including Wanted, Dabangg, Ek Tha Tiger, Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan and Bharat.

That history inevitably creates expectations whenever a Salman film claims the festival window.

But this project is attempting something slightly different from simply recreating an established formula.

Paidipally brings the filmmaking vocabulary of large Telugu star vehicles. Nayanthara adds a major South Indian star presence. Dil Raju's production infrastructure gives the film another connection to Telugu commercial cinema.

The result could become an interesting test of what happens when the traditional Salman Khan Eid vehicle is rebuilt through a genuinely cross-industry production team.

The Celebrity Hour Take

Jackie Shroff's reported casting is appealing because of the nostalgia attached to seeing him with Salman Khan again.

But nostalgia probably isn't the most important thing happening here.

Look at how the film is being assembled.

Salman Khan brings the Hindi star vehicle. Nayanthara provides a major South Indian presence. Vamshi Paidipally brings the sensibility of Telugu commercial cinema, while Dil Raju and Sri Venkateswara Creations provide the production foundation.

Jackie then adds another recognisable Hindi-film personality without apparently being positioned as the conventional villain.

That suggests the filmmakers are building an ensemble around Salman rather than merely filling supporting slots around him.

The distinction could matter.

Many so-called pan-India productions rely heavily on casting actors from different industries and allowing the casting itself to become the selling point. Paidipally's film will ultimately have to demonstrate that these actors have meaningful narrative functions rather than functioning as a collection of recognisable faces.

Jackie's character could be an early indication of whether the film succeeds at that.

For now, though, his involvement should remain described as reported rather than officially announced.

That's less dramatic than “Mega Reunion Confirmed.”

It's also more accurate.
