That makes the most interesting aspect of the project less about another Lakshya romance and more about where his recent filmography appears to be heading. After the intense action of Kill, the show-business drama of Netflix’s The Ba**ds of Bollywood* and the more straightforward romantic territory of Chand Mera Dil, the new film is being developed around a character described as more psychologically layered and unpredictable.

What is actually confirmed about Lakshya and Prosit Roy’s film?

For a project this early in development, the distinction between confirmed information and industry reporting is important.

According to the press-release-based PTI report, Lakshya and Prosit Roy are collaborating on an untitled psychological romance. The project is in development, the December 2026 filming plan is described as an expectation rather than a completed production commitment, and a 2027 release is currently intended. Story specifics, the female lead and other cast members remain undisclosed.

Separate coverage has described Lakshya’s character as more complex and unpredictable than some of his previous roles. Bollywood Hungama similarly reported that the film would combine a romantic narrative with darker psychological elements and that casting for the female lead was still underway.

There is therefore enough evidence to report the collaboration and broad creative direction confidently, but not enough to speculate about the plot, Lakshya’s exact character arc or who will star opposite him.

One correction: Prosit Roy was one of Raakh’s directors

Much of the initial coverage has referred to Prosit Roy simply as “the director of Raakh.” The official Prime Video listing is more precise.

Prime Video credits Prosit Roy, Anusha Nandakumar and Sandeep Saket as directors on the 2026 crime series. The show, produced by Endemol Shine India and BhaDiPa for Amazon Studios, follows the investigation into the disappearance and murder of two teenagers in 1978 Delhi while also examining the psychology of the perpetrators.

That matters because Roy’s association with psychologically driven material is relevant to the new project, but presenting Raakh as solely his directorial work would overstate the available official credit.

Roy had earlier made his feature-directing debut with the 2018 supernatural horror film Pari, so a romance built around psychological unease would still fit naturally within the darker storytelling territory associated with his work.

Lakshya is moving from one kind of romance to another

The timing of the film is particularly notable because Lakshya has already spent part of 2026 in the romance genre.

Dharma Productions’ official material for Chand Mera Dil paired him with Ananya Panday under director Vivek Soni. The film was released theatrically on May 22, 2026, and its marketing positioned it around the complications and imperfections of contemporary love.

The Prosit Roy project appears designed to explore very different terrain.

Rather than another emotionally accessible romance, the early description suggests that the relationship itself will be intertwined with psychological tension. Exactly what that means obsession, manipulation, unreliable perception, emotional trauma or something else entirely has not been disclosed, and it would be premature to assign any of those themes to the film.

Netflix’s official listing for The Ba**ds of Bollywood* identifies him among the principal cast alongside Bobby Deol and Raghav Juyal. Created by Aryan Khan, Bilal Siddiqi and Manav Chauhan, the seven-episode series followed an ambitious outsider navigating the Hindi film industry.

Together with Kill and Chand Mera Dil, that project has given Lakshya three noticeably different spaces action, show-business drama and romance before he moves into this new hybrid.

That makes the Prosit Roy collaboration potentially more useful to Lakshya than simply adding another release to his slate. A psychologically complicated romantic protagonist could test whether he can sustain ambiguity rather than relying primarily on physical intensity or conventional romantic appeal.

Is Dharma Productions backing the film?

This detail requires careful attribution.

Pinkvilla reported on July 25 that Dharma Productions was preparing a psychological love story with Prosit Roy, before subsequently reporting on August 14 that Lakshya had been selected for Roy’s upcoming project.

However, the PTI report based on the later press release did not identify Dharma Productions as the producer of the Lakshya film.

Unless Dharma or the filmmakers formally connect the two announcements, it is safer to describe Dharma’s involvement as reported rather than officially confirmed for this specific film.

That is an important distinction for publication, particularly when a project remains in development.

What remains unknown?

As of August 22, the film does not have a publicly announced title, confirmed female lead or detailed synopsis.

The production schedule is also still forward-looking. “Expected to begin filming in December” should not be treated in the same way as an official commencement-of-shoot announcement. Projects in development can undergo casting or scheduling changes before cameras roll.

For now, the confirmed story is relatively straightforward: Lakshya and Prosit Roy are collaborating on an untitled romance with psychological elements, development is underway, and the current plan points toward production late this year and release in 2027.
