Dominican Republic’s Joheirry Mola Dominguez Crowned Miss World 2026 in Vietnam

Joheirry Mola Dominguez, a 24-year-old educator, communicator, and community advocate from the Dominican Republic, was crowned Miss World 2026 at the grand finale of the 73rd edition of the global pageant in Nha Trang, Vietnam, on September 5, 2026. Competing against representatives from 110 countries, Dominguez secured the coveted blue crown after advancing through the competition's final stages.  

Spain’s Elisabeth Reynés Alabern was named first runner-up, while Malaysia’s Taanusiya Chetty finished as second runner-up. Chetty also won the pageant’s 'Beauty with a Purpose' award. Dominguez was crowned by outgoing titleholder Opal Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand, who won Miss World in 2025.  

A Historic Milestone for the Dominican Republic

Dominguez’s victory marks the second time the Dominican Republic has captured the Miss World crown. Her win ends a 44-year hiatus for the Caribbean nation, whose first title was claimed by Mariasela Álvarez in 1982.  

Born in Santo Domingo, Dominguez holds a degree in Business Management and Administration from Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE). Outside of pageantry, she works as an educator teaching Literature and Social Studies in English, with an emphasis on developing critical thinking and holistic learning among her students.  

Beyond the classroom, Dominguez works in media as a correspondent for Univision New York’s Ventana a Quisqueya, reporting on Dominican culture, diaspora stories, and social issues. She is also a professional model and serves as an ambassador for Goya Gives.  

The Winning Answer: Education as Empowerment

During the final Q&A round, contestants were asked:

“Which Beauty with a Purpose have you supported in your country, and how would you improve it if you were crowned Miss World?”  

Dominguez highlighted her self-founded social project, Voices of Tomorrow, which expands access to English-language education for children in underserved communities:  

“My Beauty with a Purpose is to take English programmes to children in vulnerable communities because I believe that knowing this language can open huge doors of opportunity for them,” Dominguez said during the broadcast. “I was talking to the girls and telling them that, thanks to this tool, we are here today. It gives us the ability to express our feelings and communicate our purpose. For me, it is something I will always carry in my heart knowing that I can give these children something so important. It is a tool that will stay with them and benefit them for the rest of their lives.”  

Her stated personal motto reflects a similar focus on mentorship and social mobility: “The greatest gift you can offer is the opportunity that you once needed yourself in order to grow, move forward, and transform your life.”  

75 Years of Miss World and Event Highlights

While the Vietnam event marked the 73rd coronation ceremony, the pageant also celebrated the 75th anniversary of its founding in London in 1951. The gap between anniversary years and coronation numbers stems from event postponements during the global COVID-19 pandemic.  

The finale evening in Nha Trang was co-hosted by reigning Mr. World Danny Mejia and Miss World 2016 Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico. During the broadcast, organizers announced that Tanzania will serve as the host country for the next edition of Miss World.  

India's Representation: Nikita Porwal Reaches Top 40

India was represented at the 73rd edition by Nikita Porwal, an actor and playwright from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, who previously won Femina Miss India World 2024.
