Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar Reportedly Approached for Tiger Shroff’s Zombie Comedy but Their Reunion Isn’t Confirmed Yet

Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar could reunite on screen in an unlikely new setting: a zombie comedy headlined by Tiger Shroff. But despite headlines suggesting that the Welcome favourites are already returning as a pair, their casting has not been officially announced.

The development originated in an August 12 report by Bollywood Hungama, which said producer Firoz Nadiadwala had approached Kapoor and Patekar for two interconnected characters in an untitled zombie comedy. The publication attributed the information to unnamed sources close to the project. Subsequent reports from NDTV and The Times of India repeated that the actors were in talks, rather than formally signed.

That distinction is important because one part of the project can be verified more strongly than the other: a Tiger Shroff-Shanaya Kapoor zombie comedy involving director Ahmed Khan has previously been publicly acknowledged by Khan himself. Kapoor and Patekar joining it remains a reported casting development.

What Ahmed Khan has actually confirmed

Speaking in July about the project, Ahmed Khan said the zombie comedy was in the pipeline, that a photoshoot had already been completed and that the remaining ensemble cast was still being finalised. Reports carrying his comments identified Tiger Shroff and Shanaya Kapoor with the film.

That makes the existence of the project considerably more defensible than the latest Anil Kapoor-Nana Patekar casting claim.

There is also an earlier April 23 report from Variety India, which said Firoz Nadiadwala had signed Tiger Shroff and Shanaya Kapoor for the untitled film, with Ahmed Khan directing. At that stage, the publication said filming was being targeted for the end of 2026.

However, the project's timeline and even Ahmed Khan's immediate directing priorities have subsequently become less clear.

A July statement complicates the latest reports

There is an important piece of context missing from a straightforward “Welcome duo reunites” narrative.

On July 31, Bollywood Hungama published comments from Ahmed Khan in which he said his next directorial would be with Akshay Kumar. The same report described the Tiger-Shanaya zombie comedy as part of recent speculation and quoted Khan saying such rumours were “not true as of now,” while explaining that his immediate focus was his next collaboration with Akshay.

Then, less than two weeks later, the August 12 report linked Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar to the zombie comedy and said its scripting was underway, with production being eyed for early 2027.

Those two developments are not impossible to reconcile. A film can remain in development without being a director's immediate next project, and schedules frequently change before production.

But there has been no publicly located first-party announcement from Nadiadwala, Ahmed Khan, Anil Kapoor or Nana Patekar confirming the latter two actors' involvement. For that reason, describing the reunion as final would go beyond the available evidence.

Why the Anil Kapoor-Nana Patekar pairing matters

The attraction is obvious.

Kapoor's Majnu Bhai and Patekar's Uday Shetty became central comic figures in Anees Bazmee's 2007 Welcome. Their contrasting personalities Majnu's flamboyance and Uday's volatile attempts to become respectable gave the film one of its most recognisable comedy partnerships.

Both actors returned for Welcome Back in 2015.

They were not part of the principal ensemble of Welcome to the Jungle, making the possibility of another collaboration particularly notable. The reported zombie film would also place their comic chemistry in a genre substantially different from the gangster-farce setting associated with Uday and Majnu.

The August report does not, however, establish that they would literally reprise those two characters. It says they were approached for a pair of roles intended to evoke similar chemistry.

That is a meaningful difference: unless the producers announce otherwise, this should not be presented as Uday and Majnu returning in a new franchise.

Tiger Shroff would be entering relatively unusual territory

A zombie comedy would also represent a tonal shift for Tiger Shroff.

Much of his mainstream filmography has been built around action, martial arts and physically demanding roles. Pairing that persona with a horror-comedy format could allow filmmakers to use his action strengths without constructing another conventional action vehicle.

The project is also being developed as an ensemble rather than solely as a Tiger-led film. Ahmed Khan's July comments specifically described it as a multistarrer and said additional casting remained to be locked.

The later Anil-Nana report therefore fits the previously stated plan to build a larger ensemble, even though those particular negotiations remain unconfirmed.

Production schedule remains fluid

There is also no reason yet to treat the reported early-2027 shoot as fixed.

Variety India initially reported in April that production was being planned for the end of 2026. The August casting report instead suggested an early-2027 start with a start-to-finish schedule.

Since neither production schedule has been formally announced by the makers, the safest conclusion is simply that the film has been in development while its cast and production calendar continue to evolve.

The Celebrity Hour Take

The more interesting story here is not simply the possibility of seeing Majnu Bhai and Uday Shetty's actors together again.

If Firoz Nadiadwala ultimately brings Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar and Tiger Shroff into the same zombie comedy, the film would be attempting to blend nostalgia-driven ensemble comedy with a genre Hindi mainstream cinema has rarely explored at large commercial scale.

But nostalgia is precisely why the casting should be reported carefully. Calling Kapoor and Patekar “confirmed” now would turn a reported negotiation into a fact.

For the moment, Tiger Shroff and Shanaya Kapoor's association with Ahmed Khan's developing ensemble has substantially stronger public support. The Anil Kapoor-Nana Patekar reunion remains the part to watch for an official announcement.
