Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan are back on screen together after nearly two decades, but Haiwaan is deliberately avoiding the easy nostalgia route.

Saif describes his character as a ‘blind samurai’

Saif had already offered more detail about his role before the teaser arrived.

In an official statement published in July, he called the part one of the most interesting roles he had been offered and said he imagined the character as an Indian version of a “blind samurai.” He explained that the challenge was finding the physical behaviour of a visually impaired man without making the performance exaggerated.

In a separate interview, Saif described the character as heroic rather than helpless and said he was trying to keep the performance comparatively restrained despite the film being commercial entertainment.

Akshay Kumar is playing an outright villain

Akshay’s role represents an equally significant shift.

Priyadarshan has said that Akshay was not originally his first choice for the antagonist. Bobby Deol was considered earlier, while Akshaye Khanna and Suniel Shetty were also discussed before Akshay ultimately came aboard.
